Osi Umenyiora Career Highlights

  • Umenyiora was taken 46th overall in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He was a part of a successful Giants draft class that included future Super Bowl winners such as David Diehl and David Tyree.
  • Osi didn’t see much of the field his first full season, but he did record his first sack in the Giants’ season finale against the Panthers on Dec. 28, 2003.
  • Umenyiora became a full-time starter during the 2004 season in Tom Coughlin’s first year as Giants head coach. Playing opposite to Strahan, Osi racked up seven sacks in seven starts and forced three fumbles.
  • The 2005 campaign was the one that put Umenyiora on the map. He started all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 14.5 sacks, his career high.
  • One of his signature performances during the 2005 season was a two-sack game against future Hall of Fame tackle Walter Jones of the Seahawks.
  • Umenyiora was selected a 2005 first-team All-Pro, made the 2005 Pro Bowl squad and helped the Giants to an NFC East division crown.
  • After an injury-plagued 2006 season, Umenyiora came back with a vengeance in 2007. Osi didn’t record his first sack until a Week 4 Sunday night matchup against the rival Eagles. During that contest, he tallied a career-high for sacks in a game with six.
  • With Umenyiora, Strahan and Tuck in tow, the Giants caught fire late in the season. Osi captured his first Super Bowl on Feb. 3, 2008 after Big Blue upset the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl.
  • Thanks to a 13-sack campaign in 2007, Umenyiora made his second Pro Bowl.
  • Umenyiora missed the entire 2008 season due to cartilage damage in his left knee in a preseason contest against the Jets.
  • He was able to show he was fully recovered during the 2010 season, recording 11.5 sacks and forcing a league-high 10 forced fumbles.
  • He missed seven games in 2011 due to various injuries, but he still managed to be a force, recording nine sacks in nine games.
  • In the Giants’ NFC-East clinching victory over the Cowboys in Week 17, Umenyiora recorded two sacks.
  • Osi went on to record 3.5 more sacks during the postseason and captured his second Super Bowl with the Giants after the G-Men beat the Patriots again in the Super Bowl on Feb. 5, 2012.
  • In 10 seasons with the Giants, Osi racked up 85 sacks in 161 games and forced 35 fumbles.
