The Rangers made it a Black Friday for the Flyers.
Goals from Derek Stepan, Matt Puempel and Kevin Hayes staked the Blueshirts to a 3-0 lead and Henrik Lundqvist was able to make it stand with an outstanding 40-save effort in the 3-2 win over Philadelphia.
Puempel made his Rangers debut and scored at 14:50 of the first period, finishing the odd-man rush after a great backhand pass from Jimmy Vesey.
“It’s huge when you have injuries guys come in and contribute,” Marc Staal said to the media after the game. “That was big for us today.”

Lundqvist was able to hold off the hard-charging Flyers in the third period and rebounded with a strong performance after being pulled in Wednesday’s 6-1 loss to the Penguins. The 40 saves is a season-high for the Blueshirts’ all-time wins leader.
“I thought [Lundqvist] looked like his confident self in the net,” Staal said. “He stood tall and kept us in for sure.”
The Rangers are back in action Sunday against the Senators, as they face former teammate Derick Brassard for the first time since the offseason trade that sent the center to Ottawa. Live coverage gets under way at 6:30 p.m. on MSG.
