NEW YORK ISLANDERS (11-10-5) @ COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS (16-5-4)
LOOKING FOR MORE WINS
Tonight the Islanders look to extend their point-streak to seven games as they travel to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets for the first of four meetings between the clubs this season. The Isles swept the season series last season, outscoring the Blue Jackets 19-9 along the way. However, Columbus is much improved this season and has a 9-3-1 record at home.
TWO HOT SQUADS
The Islanders have reeled off five wins in their past six games, making them one of the hottest teams in the NHL, however, tonight they are facing one of the NHL’s top clubs in Columbus. The Blue Jackets have won five straight games and are 7-1-2 in their last ten games and currently rank fifth in the NHL with 36 points.
LEE ON FIRE
Isles’ forward Anders Lee scored in the first period Thursday versus St. Louis, then tallied the game-winning goal with only 7:18 remaining. Lee now has seven goals in his past eight games, improving his season totals to eight goals and two assists for 10 points.
SAM I AM
Blue Jackets’ forward Sam Gagner scored a goal and registered an assist last night versus Detroit, giving the 27-year-old multiple-point games in two straight contests. Gagner has 11 goals already and is looking to challenge his career-high of 18, produced with Edmonton in 2011-2012.
91 WANTS A ROAD GOAL
Islanders’ captain John Tavares extended his point streak to four games, tallying a goal for the second straight game. No. 91 now has eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points, but has yet to score a goal on the road this season.
