NEW JERSEY DEVILS (15-16-7) @ CAROLINA HURRICANES (16-13-7)
SECOND OF THREE
Tonight, the Devils round out a back-to-back set as they travel to Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes. This will be the third of four games between the two Metropolitan Division clubs as the Devils have taken each of the first two games of the season series. The Devils blanked the Boston Bruins 3-0 last night as Cory Schneider recorded his 23rd career shutout. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes begin the night looking to get back into the win column after falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 on New Year’s Eve.
P.A. PUTTING THE PUCK IN
P.A. Parenteau scored the game-opening goal, 4:12 into the first period vs. Boston last night. The goal was the eventual winning goal and was his 11th of the season. Parenteau has been a pleasant surprise for the Devils, scoring several clutch goals and now has 17 points in 36 games.
Rookie forward Sebastian Aho continues to impress, as the 19-year-old scored the lone goal vs. Tampa Saturday for the Hurricanes. Aho has two goals and two assists in his past five games and currently ranks third amongst all Hurricanes’ scorers with seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 36 games.
Taylor Hall sealed the deal with an empty-net goal last night while adding an assist on Parenteau’s tally, extending his scoring streak (one goal, four assists) to four games. Hall takes the ice tonight with nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points and has produced seven power play points.
Former Blackhawk’s left wing Teuvo Teravainen extended his point-scoring streak (one goal, three assists) to four games Saturday, assisting on Aho’s second-period tally. Teravainen has proven he can produce without superstar linemates, and has nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points in 36 games in Carolina this season.
