Game Preview: Islanders at Coyotes

NEW YORK ISLANDERS (15-15-7) @ ARIZONA COYOTES (11-22-6)

GAME 2 OF BACK-TO-BACKS

Tonight the Islanders complete their back-to-back set as they travel to Arizona where they face the Coyotes at Gila River Arena. This will be the second of two games the between the clubs this season, as the Islanders previously defeated the Coyotes 3-2 on Oct. 21. Tonight the Islanders will look to rebound from last night’s 2-1 overtime loss vs. the Colorado Avalanche, while the Coyotes also fell in overtime last night in the front-end of their back-to-back, falling 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks.

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT

Isles’ defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored a power-play goal last night in Colorado; his first of the season, after accumulating 20 points on the power play over the past two seasons. With only 13 total points in 36 games, Boychuk will need more point production as the Islanders make their playoff push in the second half of the season.

HOT HANZAL

Av’s center Martin Hanzal scored last night in Anaheim, giving him two goals and two assists in the past five games. Hanzal now has nine goals and six assists for 14 points this season, including three goals and three assists while skating on the power play.

LEDDY PACING THE D

Nick Leddy registered his second point (1 goal, 1 assist) in his past three games, setting up last night’s Boychuk goal on the power play. Leddy leads all Islanders’ defensemen in scoring with five goals and 11 assists for 16 points, while seven (two goals, five assists) of his points have come on the power play.

CAPTAIN LEADING THE WAY

Despite firing five pucks on net last night, Isles’ captain John Tavares was held off the board for the first time in three games. The Islanders leading scorer will take the ice in Arizona looking to get back on the scoresheet and add to his 11 goals and 16 assists (27 points) produced in 37 games this season.
