Game Preview: Sabres at Jets

BUFFALO SABRES (14-15-9) vs. WINNIPEG JETS (19-19-3)

SECOND OF TWO

The Sabres will host the Jets at KeyBank Center in the final game of the season series between the two clubs. Buffalo won the first matchup, winning 3-1 in Winnipeg on Oct. 30, and hit the ice today following a tough 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday. The Jets meanwhile, arrive in Western New York winners of the first two games of their three-game road trip, including a 4-1 win over the Panthers in Florida Wednesday.

O’REILLY BACK, AND PRODUCING

Center Ryan O’Reilly (appendectomy) returned to the Sabres’ lineup after missing four games. Upon return, he tallied two power play assists against Chicago. O’Reilly­ now has seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points this season. He has been a sensation on the man advantage with three goals and nine assists on the power play.

EICHEL STRINGING THEM TOGETHER

Jack Eichel extended his point-streak to five games in Thursday’s loss in Chicago with six points (three goals, three assists). The Sabres top draft pick in 2015 scored on the power play in each of the past two games. Eichel now has eight goals and six assists for 14 points in only 17 games this season.

SUPER-ROOKIE ROLLING

Rookie Patrik Laine scored a goal and registered an assist in Wednesday’s win over Florida. Laine begins the day with a three-game scoring streak, logging two goals and four assists during that span. In his initial NHL campaign, he has recorded 21 goals with 15 assists for 36 points in 41 games.

K.O. ON THE SCORESHEET AGAIN

Sabres’ forward Kyle Okposo tallied a goal and an assist against Chicago Thursday, thus extending his point-streak to four games (three goals, two assists). Okposo is enjoying a successful first season in Buffalo, registering 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, including 15 power play points (six goals, nine assists).
