Game Preview: Devils at Capitals

NEW JERSEY DEVILS (20-20-9) @ WASHINGTON CAPITALS (32-10-6)

THIRD OF FOUR

Tonight, the Devils host the Washington Capitals at Prudential Center for the third of four games between the two clubs this season. The teams have split their first two games together and after tonight, will face off in their final meeting on Mar. 2. New Jersey enters the night looking to get back into the win column after falling 3-1 to the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday.

The Caps meanwhile, have made a big playoff push over the past two weeks in picking up 12 wins over their past 14 games. However, their run of 13 straight games in which they picked up at least a point came to an end Tuesday, as they were shutout 3-0 by the Ottawa Senators.

“We could have scored on our first shift and didn’t, took a penalty and ended up chasing the game a little bit. We had ample opportunity to get ourselves back in the game but didn’t have any puck luck to get it in the back of the net.” – Devils coach John Hynes on trying to come back from a 3-0 deficit against the Kings Tuesday.

WOOD PRODUCING

Twenty-one year-old Devils rookie Miles Wood continues to produce, and now has two goals and one assist over his last two games. He adds to his season totals of seven goals and four assists, combining for 11 points. Wood has shown confidence in his game over the past several weeks, and it has been reflected in his production, picking up three goals and four assists for seven points in January.

OV FIRING AWAY

Caps right wing Alexander Ovechkin was held off the board Tuesday in Ottawa, however, he still created offensive chances by firing seven shots on net. OV has been sensational during the Capitals January run, scoring five goals with 10 assists for 15 points in 13 games. He enters tonight’s game with 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points on the season, with nine power play goals and an impressive six game-winning tallies.

Devils Cammalleri Rangers Away Preseason 092616

Devils’ winger Michael Cammalleri has points in three of his past four games after picking up an assist on Kyle Quincey’s tally Tuesday. Over his last two games, Cammalleri has three assists, giving him a goal and sevens assist for the month.
