New York, NY (January 23, 2013) – Season Two of MSG Networks’ original series “Beginnings” will continue this month with three consecutive Thursdays of new episodes featuring players from the New York Rangers. The schedule kicks off with Rangers All-Star defenseman Dan Girardi on Thursday, January 24 at 10:00 p.m., immediately following MSG’s coverage of the Rangers-Flyers game.
“Beginnings,” presented by Melrose Credit Union, takes a behind-the-scenes look at where and how some of the players and personalities at Madison Square Garden got started. In the first episode, Girardi takes MSG’s cameras to Welland, Ontario to meet his family and friends from his days before professional hockey.
One of the stops in Welland is to Kimono’s Chinese Buffet where Girardi explains that long before he ever took the ice at Madison Square Garden, he washed dishes at the local eatery. Also in the episode, Girardi’s parents were happy to share stories about their son, including one of the first times he was in a game, at the age of five, when he won a faceoff, turned around and fired a shot at the wrong goal.
On January 31 at 10:00 p.m., following MSG’s coverage of the Rangers-Penguins tilt, “Beginnings” heads to St. Paul, Minnesota with Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh. In the episode, McDonagh visits the local golf course and firehouse where his dad is superintendant and a volunteer, respectively, and also heads back to his high school where he caught up with his coach.
On February 7 at 10:00 p.m., following MSG’s Rangers-Islanders coverage, Rangers forward Brad Richards sends MSG’s cameras back to Canada, this time to Prince Edward Island and the town of Murray Harbour, where he grew up as the son of a lobster fisherman and was a summer camp instructor for Penguins star Sidney Crosby.
