Providence, led by Boston’s own Jimmy Walker, edged Bob Cousy’s Boston College squad, 91-86, in the 1965 Holiday Festival Final at The Garden. At the time, the Holiday Festival was the most prestigious in-season tournament in the country and on-par with winning the NIT.

Walker earned MVP honors with a magnificent 50-point performance in the final, including a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half. It was the last time any college player scored 50 points at The Garden. Walker went on to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 1967 the NBA Draft and is the father of former NBA player Jalen Rose.
