Before Walt “Clyde” Frazier became an all-time Knicks legend, he was a little-known point guard playing for the Southern Illinois Salukis. On March 18, 1967, Frazier would provide a glimspe of what was to come.
Frazier saved his best collegiate performance for the NIT Final at The Garden. He recorded a double-double — 21 points, 11 rebounds — and added five assists for good measure to help pace Southern Illnois to a 71-56 victory. Thankfully for Knicks fans, it wouldn’t be the last time Clyde would come through in the clutch in a must-win game in NYC.
