By the Numbers: Villanova’s Championship Run

Led by Ryan Arcidiacono and Kris Jenkins, Villanova captured the school’s second NCAA National Championship on Monday, and first since 1985, with a thirlling buzzer-beating victory over North Carolina.

MSG+ is celebrating by airing Super Nova: Villanova’s Championship Run Sunday at 4 PM and 6 PM. The 30-minute special, hosted by Kevin Burkhardt, will showcase Final Four Most Outstanding Player Ryan Arcidiacono, a look back at the 1985 Wildcats, a conversation with championship game hero Kris Jenkins and footage from their celebration and victory parade.

58.2% – Villanova shot a tournament best 58.2% from the field, the highest shooting percentage ever for an NCAA Tournament champion.

83.5 – The Wildcats scored 83.5 points per game, fourth best in the tournament.

20.6 – Villanova’s average margin of victory in the NCAA Tournament was 20.6. It was the second-best ever by a champion, behind only Kentucky in 1996 (21.5).

15.8 – Ryan Arcidiacono led Villanova is scoring with an average of 15.8 points per game, which was 69th  overall for the tournament.

44 – Villanova’s 44-point win over Oklahoma was the greatest margin of victory in the Final Four, surpassing the 34-point wins by Cincinnati Bearcats over Oregon State in 1963 and Michigan State defeating Penn in 1979.

71.4% – The Wildcats shot 71.4% from the field against Oklahoma, which is second best for a Final Four game behind only the 1985 Villanova team that shot 78.6% in the championship against Georgetown.

9 – Villanova held Oklahoma star Buddy Hield to just 9 points in their Final Four matchup. Hield has only been held under double digits once all season and was averaging 29 points heading into the game.

1 – The Wildcats lost only one game to an unranked opponent the whole season, losing to Seton Hall in the Big East Championship.
