The Islanders were dealt a serious blow Friday as the team announced that Anders Lee suffered a broken left fibula and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Lee was injured in the first period of Thursday’s win against the Rangers. He was hit by a shot from teammate Johnny Boychuk while attempting to screen Rangers’ goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
Lee joins Jaroslav Halak (groin), Travis Hamonic (knee) and Mikhail Grabovski (concussion symptoms) on the list of injured Islanders. Also banged up are Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, Brian Strait and Jean-Francois Berube, all of whom sat out Thursday’s victory as well.
In 80 games this season, the 25-year-old forward recorded 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists). The Islanders will move froward without Lee Saturday at home against the Sabres (7 PM, MSG) before closing out the regular season Sunday against the Flyers (6:30 PM, MSG+).
