Henrik Lundqvist Injured in Game 1 Against Penguins

Henrik Lundqvist was injured in the final minute of the first period, and though he finished out the period in the crease, he did not return.

While battling in front of the net, Marc Staal‘s stick blade inadvertently went through the cage of Lundqvist’s mask and poked the goaltender in the eye. After being attended to by head trainer Jim Ramsay at the Rangers’ bench, Lundqvist went back between the pipes.

The Penguins scored to take a 1-0 lead 30 seconds later.

Backup Antti Raanta came out to begin the second period in goal for the Blueshirts.

After the game, Alain Vigneault said that Lundqvist will be re-evaluated by Rangers medical staff Thursday.
