Hayes Back as Rangers Host Ducks

The Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks for the first meeting between the two clubs this season.

The Ducks are the last team in the league that the Blueshirts have yet to face this year. This marks the third of six consecutive on the road for Anaheim. The Ducks were winless on back-to-back nights in Florida to start the trip, although they did pick up a point on Saturday in a shootout loss to Tampa.

Tonight marks the second of four consecutive at The Garden against Western Conference opponents for the Blueshirts. The Rangers are coming off a 4-3 win against Calgary to snap a two-game winless streak at home.

1. Patience and Positioning

The Ducks are very representative of the bigger, more plodding teams that have dominated the Western Conference over the past number of years. The Rangers have to commit to a patient, well-positioned presence in the defense zone as the Ducks thrive on a heavy low-cycle game to generate their offense.

2. Offensive Depth

Kevin Hayes returns to the lineup after missing five games due to a lower-body injury. This will mark the first time this season where the Rangers have their top-12 forwards healthy. Bodies are now slotted in the right positions, allowing the Rangers to play with the pace that is so important to their success.

3. Tape to Tape

The Rangers are a quick team that becomes even quicker if the puck is moved efficiently. They got bogged down in the middle period in their last outing against Calgary when the puck wasn’t moved well enough. Move it well and good things happen.
