Rangers Acquire DeAngelo & 7th Overall Pick From Coyotes

In a pre-draft blockbuster, the Rangers are sending Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to the Coyotes in exchange for Anthony DeAngelo and the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

DeAngelo, 21, had 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 39 games last season, his first in the NHL. The Sewell, New Jersey native also skated in 25 AHL games last season, recording three goals and 13 assists.

He was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round (19th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rangers now own two first round picks (seventh overall and 21st overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft and four additional selections.

Stepan was drafted by the Rangers in 2008 (second round, 51st overall) and appeared in 515 games over seven seasons (2010-11 – 2016-17) in New York. He registered 17 goals and 38 assists last season.

The Rangers acquired Raanta from the Blackhawks in 2015 and served as Henrik Lundqvist‘s backup for two seasons. He finished last season with a 16-8-2 record with a 2.26 GAA and a .922 SV%.
