Ralph Krueger‘s unique sporting journey has now led him to Buffalo.

The 59-year-old will be behind the bench for the Sabres after the team named him the 19th head coach in franchise history Wednesday.

A native of Winnipeg, Krueger previously coached in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers during the abbreviated 2012-13 season. Before that, Krueger had extensive coaching experience in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Krueger’s most recent experience as a head coach was with Team Europe in 2016 at the World Cup of Hockey.

Here’s what fans and experts had to say about the hiring.

While Krueger has spent most of his sporting life in hockey, he’s actually had a big hand in the rise of Southampton FC of the English Premier League, serving as Chairman for the last five seasons.

Although Krueger loved his time with Southampton, hockey has always been his first love.

Here are Krueger’s first comments to the fans of the Sabres.
