1 Expansion History

The expansion Vegas Golden Knights come to Brooklyn on a five-game winning streak and an 8-1-0 record. In the Islanders first year in the NHL (1972-73), it took them 65 games to with their eighth game!

2 Power Play Ignited

The Islanders exploded for three power play goals in Saturday’s win over Nashville after starting the season 2-for-33. Part of the reason was flip-flopping Jordan Eberle and Mathew Barzal on the first and second units, which resulted in Eberle’s first goal as an Islander.

3 Hats Off

John Tavares recorded his second hat trick in three games Saturday, scoring three consecutive goals in the third period. Tavares now has 10 points (seven goals, three assists) in his last four games and was rewarded by being named the NHL’s First Star of the Week today.

4 Stick With What Worked

Coming off of Saturday’s 6-2 beatdown of the defending Western Conference champions, coach Doug Weight is rolling with the same lineup. That means Jaroslav Halak will be making his second straight start in net. A strong performance tonight could propel Halak to a third consecutive start, something he has yet to do this season.
