Twenty-year-old rookie Mathew Barzal continues to set record after record.
After recording three points last night in Montreal, he became the first rookie in Islanders history to register eight points over a span of two games in one season.
These teams played on Jan. 7 at Barclays Center, with the Islanders coming from two goals down to win 5-4 in a shootout.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Isles and was the start of their current three-game winning streak.
Thanks to their three-game winning streak the Islanders (52 points) have catapulted up the Metropolitan Division Standings and with a regulation win tonight they can tie the Devils (54 points).
However, the Devils have three games in hand on the Isles.
The Isles have had great success against their cross-state rivals of late.
They have won their last eight home games against New Jersey and are 13-1-1 in their last 15 meetings.
Due to the Isles numerous injuries, Anthony Beauvillier was recalled from Bridgeport two weeks ago and has impressed.
In three games Beauvillier has five points (four goals, one assist) and has developed a nice chemistry with linemates Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle.
