1 You Again

Brendan Burke and Butch Goring recap the action from the Islanders' 6-4 win over the Hurricanes at Barclays Center.

These teams played Thursday in Brooklyn, with the Islanders winning a wild 10-goal affair. New York raced out to a 3-1 lead only to find themselves down 4-3 after two periods. Then, they rallied for three unanswered goals in the third period to escape with a 6-4 win.

What will the rematch have in store?

2 Going Back To Back

Brendan Burke and Butch Goring look at how the Isles were able to hold off a furious three-period charge by the Lightning to hang on for a 5-3 win in Tampa.

Both teams will be playing the second half of a back-to-back set today and both are coming off wins on Saturday. The Islanders took down the NHL-leading Lightning, while the Hurricanes beat the Sabres in Buffalo.

The Isles have had success in Raleigh, going 6-2-0 in their last eight games there.

3 First Time Long Time

The Isles have scored five or more goals in three straight games.

The last time they did that was in 1996!

4 Metro Rising

The Islanders (24 points) currently sit one point behind the Devils, Penguins and Blue Jackets in the Metro Division standings.

With those three teams idle on Sunday, a win today would vault the Isles to the top of the division!

5 First Strike

The all-important first goal is especially telling for the Islanders’ fortunes. New York is 7-0-0 when it scores first.

They are also 7-0-0 when leading after one period and 9-0-0 when leading after two.
