1 Welcome Back, Step!

Alain Vigneault has high praise for former Ranger Derek Stepan as the Blueshirts get ready to battle his new team.

It will be an emotional night at Madison Square Garden, as the Rangers welcome back Derek Stepan for the first time since trading him to the Arizona Coyotes during the offseason. Stepan spent seven seasons with the Blueshirts, recording 360 points (128 goals, 232 assists) in 515 games.

2 Oh Hey, We've Met Before

Stepan isn’t the only Rangers-Coyotes connection. Arizona has three ex-Rangers: Antti Raanta, Anthony Duclair and Adam Clendening. All were all once members of the Blueshirts.

Connections between the teams also extend to the coaching. Rangers goalie coach Benoit Allaire was the Coyotes’ goalie coach from the 1997-98 season to the 2003-04 season. Coyotes assistant coach John MacLean played for the Blueshirts from 1998-2001.

3 Pav In the Pipes

Ondrej Pavelec is expected to be between the pipes for the Rangers, making his second start of the season. In 11 games against Arizona, Pavelec has a 7-2-1 record with 2.19 goals against average and .927 save percentage. All eyes on Ondrej tonight for sure!

4 Milestone Alert!

Rangers alternate captain Marc Staal is expected to skate in his 700th career game when he takes the ice against Coyotes.

5 Will It Happen Tonight?

Alain Vigneault is one win away from tying Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire for 13th place on the league’s all-time wins list among head coaches. AV has 616 career wins as a head coach.
