1 THE OPPOSITION

The Buffalo Sabres fell short in their rally as the Islanders offense proved to be too much in the early going.

The Buffalo Sabres are looking for their first victory of the season after losing in a shootout, 3-2, to Montreal in their opener and then dropping a 6-3 decision to the Islanders Saturday.

2 KEEP SHINING SCHNEIDER

Cory Schneider had an incredible outing to start the season off Saturday, and we hope it continues today against the Sabres. Schneider is 7-3-2 in his career against the Sabres with a .933 save percentage and two shutouts.

3 THE BUTCHER OF NEWARK

Will Butcher set a Devils franchise record after tallying three points (three assists) in his NHL debut during New Jersey’s season-opening victory Saturday. *Interesting factoid – He also became the first defenseman with three assists in his first career game since Boston’s Jarno Kultanen in October of 2000. We can’t wait to see what he does today!

4 MAKING A STATEMENT

A surprise to make the opening day roster, 19-year-old Jesper Bratt had a great NHL debut, scoring a sick goal (**hit the play button – you HAVE to see it**) and tallying one assist. Our eyes are on him when he takes the ice today!

5 WILL NICO GET HIS FIRST?

Though rookies Butcher and Bratt recorded the first points of their NHL careers in the opener, No. 1 overall pick Nico Hischier was held off the scoresheet. Nico had six shots on goal and was 4-for-9 on faceoffs in 15:44 of ice time in his NHL debut Saturday.

6 POWER SURGE

Watch the best highlights from the Devils victory over Colorado in their season opener.

The Devils were 3-for-4 on the power play in the season-opening win against Colorado. Last season New Jersey was ranked 22nd in the league at just 17.5 percent with the man-advantage.
