Deb Placey, who joined MSG Networks in 1995, is the host and reporter for New Jersey Devils telecasts on MSG+, a position she started in 2011 after serving in the same role for the New York Islanders for ten years.
Prior to joining MSG Networks, Placey worked for ESPN2 as a reporter and an anchor, providing scores, highlights and updates for ESPN-produced live events including college basketball, hockey and college football. She also hosted a talk show on WFAN radio.
After growing up in St. Louis, Placey left to attend the University of Arizona, graduating with a degree in journalism. She began her career shortly thereafter as a production assistant behind the camera for ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
Placey’s first job in front of the camera was two years later when she went to WSIL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Marion, Illinois, as a news reporter. She got her first chance to work sports when she filled in for the weekend sportscaster for a two-week stint. Even though Placey only hosted four sports segments during that period, her talent was immediately recognized. Soon thereafter, she moved on to KWWL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Waterloo, Iowa, to serve as weekend sports anchor.
Placey worked at WPRI-TV, the ABC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, as weekend sports anchor and also WSVN-TV, the FOX affiliate in Miami, Florida, in the same capacity. She remained in Miami until she joined ESPN2.
Over the years, Placey has given back to her community as much as possible by donating her time to area charities and children’s organizations. She currently serves on the boards of the Pink-Aid Foundation, the Connecticut Multiple Sclerosis Society, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research and the CT Make-a-Wish Foundation. In the past she has contributed to “Big Brothers/Big Sisters,” “Bears 4 Kids,” and the “Kings Bay Boys Club.”
Placey, who is an avid golfer, tennis play and equestrian lives with her husband Edward and two daughters, Madeline and Caroline in Southport, CT. Edward is a coordinating producer for College Football at ABC/ESPN.
